Planning and preparing a pitch LO2: U21 (P3, M2)

LO2 (U21): Be able to create a proposal and pitch for an original media product based on a given brief

Potential client questions, my responses and amendments (M2 U21)

After the practice pitch, the first question that I got asked was whether or not I had any ethical constraints for the magazine. This question proved that I had not done enough research into all the areas that I needed to be familiar with When Delivering a proposal of this sort. I was unable to answer the question so this high lighted the importance of researching all necessary areas so when it comes to being questioned by a professional I would be able to deliver a true and confident response. For my real pitch I am going to make sure that I tell the client all ethical constraints that I have considered and I how I would overcome any legal and ethical issues.

The next question I was asked was How did I know that Camden was the most popular area. I responded that Through research I could tell that there were more active venues and festivals in the area. However, what I failed to do was provide any evidence for these statements I was making. to be able to deliver a believable and confident pitch you need to make sure you can showcase evidence and statistics that you have collected from various sources when researching. So this was an important  reminder that for the real pitch I will make sure I provide evidence to back up what I am trying to get across.

Another thing that was brought up was the question do you have have any sketch layouts or designs to showcase during the pitch? I did not have any visualisation diagrams to showcase. These documents are important because it shows what I already have in mind for the aesthetic of the magazine. This will give the professionals I will be pitching to a better understanding of what I want to create and give them the ability to critique stuff ahead of time to make sure I end up making something appropriate and suitable in the eyes of everyone, and not just my own. The changes I will make for my real pitch is to create visualisation diagrams of my magazine front cover and double page spread to showcase to the client.

Another thing that was mentioned was the the order in which I said things. The feedback I got from this was that I should make sure I mention my intended target audience more toward the beginning of the pitch as it allows the professionals to relate what i'm saying back to the target audience throughout the pitch. So from this I made sure my real pitch was ordered in what I believed to be a better way.

Another critique that was made was that I did not provide enough on the current national competition, leading to the client asking a question about it. for the type of magazine that I will be creating. I need to make sure that I have more examples to talk about in the real thing along with images from the magazines I would be competing with. By doing more research into the competition I will be able to identify certain statistics showing me what is currently working and what is not. I can use this to inspire my magazine to make sure I am creating something as suitable for the market as possible.

Lastly, I was told to use more specific language. By articulating my pitch in a better and more specific way it will make the pitch come across as much more confident and therefore inherently seems more knowledgeable.
