Plan and develop pre-production materials LO2: U3 (P3, M2)

LO2 (U3): Be able to plan and develop pre-production materials for an original media product to a client brief

shown above is an example of a typical industry standard talent release form. this form would filled out by anyone featured within my magazine in order for me to legally use them within it. this would include models, musicians etc.
I have a musician modelling on the front cover of magazine so they would be required to fill out this form before I can publicise any image of them.

Location
Requirements of the area
Problems you might face
How you will resolve these problems
Park road house

Conservatory (in which to shoot the model)

Room up-stairs (to take pictures of the sunset outside the window)

We require lighting to be able to eliminate shadows when shooting the model. This location is suitable because it has suitable power sources and plug sockets where we need them.
The area is suitable for taking pictures of the sunset as it is on high ground with open space out the back window which allows me to get some impressive sunset shots.
We require permission from the house owner in order to legally shoot within the house.
We have to make sure that our model is available when we want to shoot and is able to get to the desired location.
We have to make sure we have space to put up a green screen and lights around it in order to get the exact shots that we want.
We have to make sure that we have an impressive enough sunset to shoot out the window or it won’t be appropriate for the magazine.
We will make sure that before we agree on the location, it is a location where my model will be able to get there easily.
We will also hang the green screen up from the conservatory ceiling using cloths pegs in order to ensure that we have enough space for the green screen and lights set up.
I will make sure to return to the location a few times in order to get the most appropriate sunset shot as possible.

shown above is an example of location recce. this is a pre production material that needs to be filled out by those making a media product such as a magazine when scouting locations where they could possibly take appropriate photographs. this form outlines what the benefits of each scouted location are, and what are the potential problems with the location that you would need to resolve.
for my magazine, I will be able to get all the appropriate images using models and locations within my own house. equipment that I would require would be a solid colour screen to make it easy to cut out my subjects in photoshop later on. I will also require lights to eliminate shadows made by my models to make it even quicker to cut out my subjects in photoshop.

shown above is a typical example of a location release form. if you want to use a particular location for the creation of a media product such as a magazine that is owned by someone else, you would need to make sure that this document is filled out by the person who owns that particular location before you can legally shoot photographs on the location.

Potential hazard
Who is at risk?
Risk rating
Preventative measures
Tripping over wires
Models and other crew such as camera operator
4/5
All wires trailing along the floor from the lighting equipment will be stuck down using masking tape in order to prevent people from tripping over it
Dropping equipment
Camera operator and the project due to the fact that it would prevent the continuation of the project until new equipment is acquired.
3/5
Always wear a strap when handling expensive equipment such as DSLR’s so you won’t be able to drop it.
Stormy weather
The camera operator as equipment could get wet and break
2/5
Make sure that you have rain proof covers over all equipment when outside. Also try to keep equipment indoors as much as possible.
Unhygienic location
If the location is not clean the model and crew could become ill therefore halting production
1/5
Make sure location is clean and hygienic before getting model to come over for the shoot.

shown above is an example template of a risk assessment. a risk assessment would be filled out by those making the magazine. it outlines all potential hazards that could affect the project. for example, for my project a potential hazard would be tripping over cables due to the fact there will be lights set up. a way in which I could prevent this risk is by using masking tape to stick the wires down to the floor, this would eradicate the risk of tripping over them and injuring yourself. another risk would be the handling of expensive equipment. some of my photos for my magazine were shot on a DSLR, this is an expensive camera that  could break quite easily if dropped. this would delay production and would also suddenly cost a lot more money.

shown above is a gantt chart. this is a document that used to organise when certain milestones within a project should be completed by.

shown above is a mood board showcasing aesthetic inspiration for an indie rock themed magazine.

Colour scheme:
The colour scheme that I have chosen for my magazine is black, white, rose and orange. the colours black and white are classy colours that connote to something being classic. the rose colour represents love and passion to connote toward peoples passion for indie rock and the North London music scene. the colour orange exudes feelings of excitement, which will be used to represent the excitement toward the future on Indie rock within the North London music scene.

Legal issues:

One of these would be making sure I have all the correct permission from models and musicians to be featured in the magazine. If I feature an image of someone who hasn't given permission for the picture to be used and publicised in this way, they could rightly request that you either remove all images of them from the product or otherwise be potentially sued. The way of getting around this issue is to make sure you only use images of people who have signed a talent release form for your magazine.

Another legal issue would be that of copyright. This could be a problem if I use other people's images in my magazine without seeking permission. This would be stealing someone else's work and could lead to the magazine being sued. This issue would be avoided by making sure that all photos featured in the magazine are my own, and if they are not, you have to make sure you get appropriate signed permission to use the photos.

Another legal issue would be that of shooting on an owned location/property without permission. This could prove problematic if the owners of the land decide to sue on grounds of trespass. This issue would be resolved by making sure that if I want to use an owned location, I get the owners to sign a location release form beforehand if they are okay with me using the location.

Ethical issues:

An ethical issue could be if a magazine contains any language that would be deemed as vulgar or discriminatory. Magazines need to be proof read multiple times before being publicised in order to make sure that no discriminatory or vulgar language has been used. Therefore, hiring a trained proofreader for the magazine would be essential.

Another ethical issue would be the ethnic diversity being shown in the magazine. In order to make sure that all segments of the target audience feel represented, the magazine needs to make sure that they feature artists from all backgrounds.
