Generating ideas LO1: U21 (P1, M1)
LO1 (U21) Be able to generate ideas for an original media product based on a client brief
This brief is telling me that I must create a magazine about the current music scene developing in north London. I can choose whether to focus on genre, venues, festivals etc. as long as I can provide evidence of its popularity within the north London area.
Idea 1:
This would be a magazine that talks about all different music venues within north London, New and old. This is because it would be useful for people to know what is going on in all venues in north London. this magazine would feature venue reviews so people can know what is currently the most popular venues, and what venues are going to give you the best experience for what you want. the magazine would also provide venue schedules for multiple venues within North London which would prove to be very informative for those interested in the vibrant and developing North London music scene. My double page spread idea would be a venue review in which two different similar venues within North London go head to head where the article compares them both stating their strengths and weaknesses.

Strengths and weaknesses of idea 1 (M1: U21):
The strengths of this idea is that it would meet the brief by promoting the vibrant developing music scene within north London by promoting where locals can go to get involved with the scene. This arguably makes venues the most important thing to be promoting within the area.
The weaknesses of this idea is that it wouldn’t be promoting any artists within the north London area specifically or in any great detail. Readers could potentially find this personal approach more appealing to read over that of venues. People will miss out on artist Q&A’s which are extremely popular in many music magazines.
Idea 2:
This would be a magazine that talks about all upcoming artists in the hip-hop genre within the north London region. This is because the hip-hop genre is currently the biggest genre within London. this magazine would feature artist Q'N'A's which are extremely popular with music magazine buyers. it would also contain album reviews, where artists are performing next and other articles such as Artist stand-offs. this would be very informative whilst being entertains at the same time for fans of the genre within the North London region. My double page spread would be an Artist interview with a new and upcoming Hip-Hop artist in North London. this would be appropriate as people will be interested in finding out what new talent is coming out within this developing music scene in North London. The focused target audience for this magazine would be young adults between the ages of 18 and 21. Hip-Hop is currently most popular with this particular demographic.

Strengths and weaknesses of idea 2 (M1: U21)
The strengths of this would be that it meets the brief by promoting the most popular music genre within north London currently. This would successfully inform people about the vibrant music scene within the local region by promoting upcoming original artists within the genre and through interviews that provide readers the chance to get in depth perspectives from the artists themselves.
The weaknesses of this idea is that it would only be promoting the genre of hip-hop which whilst currently popular, it won’t necessarily remain to be the most popular genre within the north London region.
Idea 3:
This would be a magazine that talks about all upcoming artists and venues in north London within the indie rock genre. This is because the indie rock music scene seems to be the fastest growing genre within north London venues specifically right now. this magazine would feature articles such as artist interviews, band and album reviews, reviews of branded instruments to promote brands of guitars etc, and feature when particular artists will be playing live and where. this would be both an informative and entertaining as it would provide readers with personal insights into particular artists whilst providing readers with useful information about what is going on in North London to do with the indie rock genre. the focused target audience for this magazine would be between the ages of 28 and 30 as this genre is most popular with this demographic

Strengths and weaknesses of idea 3 (M1: U21)
The strengths of this idea are that it is currently the fastest rising genre in terms of popularity in the North London area. It would meet the brief by effectively informing readers on new indie rock talent in north London and where they could see them. another strength that this magazine has over the likes of Hip-Hop, is that its target audience consists of a slightly older demographic. this means that these older people would be more likely have more money to spend on entertainment such as magazine subscriptions whilst the target audience of Hip-Hop consists of more students who won't want to pay for a subscription.
The weaknesses of tis magazine are whilst indie rock is currently the most rapidly growing genre, the genre of Hip-Hop may continue to be the most popular genre in the area, therefore this magazine may not be taking advantage of the north London music scene as effectively compared to if it were a hip-hop magazine.
